I'd like this Blog to
address what I believe are some really relevant issues and questions in our lives. Questions like
our purpose; Why are we here in the first place? Toward what end? What is happiness? What is it that we value?
Since I am first and foremost a storyteller, sometimes, I'll simply tell a story and encourage
readers to think about the meaning the story has for them.
Finally, I'd like everyone who visits LifeStylings
to leave with something positive and hopefully, some measure of added insight into some of the issues that
impact our lives. I
think it is important to acknowledge that at the end of the day, we're all in this thing called 'life' together. Perhaps,
we can work through some of these issues TOGETHER.

THE MIRACLE OF FLIGHT 1549 This past week U.S. Airways Flight 1549 was forced to crash land in the Hudson River in New York City due to a double
bird strike. Birds sucked into the engines of a jetliner is definitely not a good thing. Both engines failed.
Incredibly, the water landing was so smooth the airplane remained intact, which gave passengers a chance
to deplane and be rescued before it sank. Even more incredible, out of 155 passengers ... every one of them survived
with only one serious injury.
The event was quickly dubbed "The Miracle on the Hudson" by New
York Governor, David A. Paterson. With good reason.
I too feel this was a miracle. Pure and simple. From the
back door of the aircraft failing to opening (which was a blessing because it would have sank the airplane quicker);
to the bird strike coming while there was the option of ditching in the river ... everything seemed to work seamlessly
toward a good end.
Almost all credit for the great (blessed) outcome went to the amazing skill and professionalism
of the pilot, Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger; a man who's spent most of his life learning his craft. He was
a F4 jet pilot for the Air Force; had flown for U.S. airways since 1980 with 19,000 miles flying time; and was a certified
glider pilot. Need I say more?
Saying it was a miracle takes nothing away from Captain Sullenberger. After
all. he was a part of the miracle; the biggest part.
I'm thinking that what might have
prevented this being one of our worst air disasters could be attributed to something several eyewitnesses described
about events leading up to the crash: when passenger's realized the plane was in trouble, they remained
calm and many of them prayed out loud. I'm sure just as many were praying silently.
As my mother used
to say ... "Prayer changes things." I believe collective prayer can move mountains. Oh
yes, I absolutely believe in miracles.
